FAITH FORMATION OF CHILDREN PRESCHOOL THROUGH GRADE 8
The faith formation or catechism of any individual begins in childhood and ends at death.
A child's first teachers are his/her parents and family members. His/her ongoing faith formation continues when he/she enrolls in school or in the parish religious education class.
San Rafael parish provides ongoing faith formation programs for its parishioners through:
-The Sunday Preschool Ministry (Ages 3-5 and Kindergarten) -The Religious Education Program (Grades 1-8) -Sacramental Preparation (Penance and Holy Eucharist) -Kids' Word (Liturgy of the Word for children Grades 1-5) -Youth Ministry (For high school students) -Adult Formation -RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) -Various church related organizations
KIDS' WORD
The children's Liturgy of the Word occurs during the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays from September through late May. Children in grades 1-5 leave the church for their opening of the Word on their appropriate age level. Catechists guide them through the Word with various activities and end with the Creed and the Prayer of the Faithful. The children return to the church at the Offertory of the Mass. (Coordinator: Christine Anderson)

This is a two-year program in which the children learn their prayers, become acquainted with Jesus and learn about God's love for us through the sacraments. Sometimes an older child is late in his/her formation. He/she is then enrolled for a year in a regular class.
